er, does the Children's Television Workshop know about this?!

does this bow clash?

One of our family's favorite little rituals is Dad's Saturday AM trek to 7-Eleven for donuts. The kids love it, and Miranda and I feel good doing our part to make sure the American diabetes epidemic rolls along unhindered.

This morning, as I sidled up to pay for my pastries, I was greeted by a sight shocking in its discordance. There--bikini clad and staring out at me from the newsstand--was one of the stars of the boys' kiddie DVDs. Kristin Chenoweth
is a singer and actress of some accomplishment who moonlights on children's television; she plays "Ms. Noodle" in Sesame Street's Elmo's World. Well, turns out she moonlights in the laddie mags as well.

At this point, it would be easy to make a tasteless joke about Ms. Noodle's potential effect on the noodles of FHM readers, but I'm going to take the high road. I am, however, not sure I'll ever be able to watch "Melmo," as Abednego calls him, quite the same way again. Drat...

Comments:
funny you should mention 'melmo'; i logged on to seek your advice - kurtzburgh is considering abandoning the cathode-ray nipple (you may have coined that phrase?) and wondered if you and Miranda have had thoughts in this direction. would you do it? and how???

since lately the kiddos seem to race faster to the sofa to watch something as crappy as "land before time" than they do when dearest daddy gets home... something's out of whack, wouldn't you say?

signed,
everything in moderation?

Hey, burghers. Sorry to be so late in replying.

We control the CRN--not my phrase, but I like it--pretty tightly in that the darlings watch no commercial TV at all. It's PBS and DVDs only. In fact, Shadrach watched a tiny bit of the Olympics with us the other night (his first foray into the wilds) and had NO idea what the ads were or what they were for. He was concerned that a) the "bobsleighing" had been interrupted and b) it wasn't coming back. The clan also watches less than 90 minutes a day, often much less.

While we might like to wean them completely, I don't see it happening soon; when we need it, we REALLY need it.
